FAQS

Do I have to go to Parkway for my kid to come to camp?
No!  We are happy to welcome all kids (rising Kindergarten – 5th graders) from the Roanoke valley to summer camp this year!  And – if you don’t have a church home, you are ALWAYS welcome to join us online or in person any Sunday!
Do you offer a discount for registering multiple kids or for multiple camps?
No, we do not.  Our camp is intentionally priced lower than other options in the valley to help provide an affordable experience for families with multiple kids.
How do you mitigate COVID-19, nut allergies, and illness at your camps?
The well-being of our staff and campers is very important to us.  We make every effort to follow published safety guidelines.  As we always do, we work to keep our camp facilities cleaned and sanitized daily.  Our camp facilities are professionally cleaned every week.  We encourage handwashing often with our campers and provide hand sanitizer stations for campers and staff.

Our camp staff asks that parents perform a wellness check at home each morning, and if your child is ill, that they not attend camp that day.  We do not have a nurse on-site.  If your child becomes ill while at camp, you will be contacted to pick up your camper so they can recuperate at home.

The Parkway Summer Camp and Parkway Preschool environments are nut-free.  We do not serve foods or snacks containing nuts, and we ask all parents to sign an acknowledgement that they will not pack a lunch containing nuts.
I work during the day, is there a before / after care option?
Yes!  We offer extended care options to help busy families.  Our early drop off opens at 7:00am and is $25 each week.  Our late-pick up closes at 5:30pm, includes an additional afternoon snack, and is $35 each week.  You can select either or both option during your enrollment under enrollment extras.

During our extended care hours, we provide supervised care outside of the regular schedule of our 9am -3pm camp day.
What will my kid be doing at camp?
Depending on the theme of the camp, your child will be taking part in themed activities, crafts, games, workshops, hands-on activities and more.  Where appropriate, we will welcome in guest volunteers to share with us.

During our lunch block, campers have a lunch break, and an indoor free-play break.  Our younger campers (rising K and 1st) may also have a quiet rest time, this is not a structured nap time, but some younger campers do still nap at this age.

We will be active, and your child may come home dirty from enjoying a day of fun.  Please send them to camp in clothing and closed toed shoes that allow them to be active and enjoy their day.

Who is running the camp?
Our summer camp programs are supervised by the Executive Summer Camp director and assistant directors. The ratio of Summer Camp staff falls between 1:17 and 1:25 ratio.  There are also high school aged camp counselors at a ratio of 1:25.

When available, we like to get members of the community with special training or talents to share with our camps.

Each adult working for our camps goes though a background check.  All camp staff participate in safety training and camp leadership training.  Many of our staff and team leadership members are AED/CPR/First Aid certified.
I registered my kid for a week of camp, and now I found out we will be out of town. Can I get a refund?
Yes!  Please check the refund policy emailed with your camp confirmation to make sure you don’t miss important dates.  Please contact Christine Phillips (Executive Summer Camp Director) by email so we have your request in writing with a time/date stamp. She will assist with you with your refund.  You can email us at summercamps@parkwayroanoke.com.
What payment types do you offer?
You can register through the link above and securely pay through our online registration process.  If you need to pay in cash or with a check, you can come to the church office in person (M-Th 8am – 3pm) to pay.
What about safety?
The Parkway Church building has recently undergone a safety upgrade that allows us to provide a secure environment.  Every outside door to the church has staff-only keypad access as well as the elevator for an added security measure.  We use other technologies, like timed locked and unlocked doors, Ring cameras to allow additional safety measures.

We do go outside for many of our activities, and our large campus provides plenty of space for us to eat lunch (weather permitting) play games, hike and enjoy the outdoors.  Campers are reminded to stay safe at camp, including never go anywhere alone.

All campers must be checked in and out by an authorized adult.  We track attendance digitally using the attendance module of our camp software.
Can I take a tour of your camp and meet my child's leader?
During the school year, our camp environment is home to Kings Christian Academy, their students and staff.  It looks like a school and not a camp.  Due to school security, we will not be hosting tours during the school day.

In addition, our camp leadership staff is only hired to work the 9 weeks of camp plus a training week before camp begins.  They most likely are at college, working another job during the school year, and our counselors are busy in high school.
I don't know where to register. Can you tell me?
Click on any of the “CLICK HERE TO REGISTER” buttons above on the website.
Camp enrollment is open, but I don't see any camps for my child?
Our summer camps are set for rising Kindergarten – 5th grade kids.  If you have a preschool aged child not going to kindergarten, or a camper going into 6th grade or older, you will not find any enrollment options for your child on our website.  Parkway Preschool offers a summer camp, it uses a different enrollment process than we do.
My child has a special need. Can they come to your camp?
Parkway Kids Summer Camp is committed to full and equal opportunity for children to enjoy the camp experience and reasonable modifications will be considered.  If your child has serious behavioral, physical, or psychological considerations, please discuss camper readiness with the executive director prior to submitting your registration.

Additionally, we must be informed if your child has been asked to leave another camp or care program and/or if your child has had disruptive behavior during their time in any other program.  If your child has an aide during school, they will need one during camp, this is not a service currently offered by Parkway Kids Summer Camps.
My child wants to be paired with their friend. Can you do that?
Everything is better with a friend – even camp!  We will make every effort to pair your camper with a friend if needed.  There is a field within enrollment process to specify “pair me with a friend…”.  This is not a guarantee, but it is helpful to our administrative staff.

Sometimes a friend pairing might not work out, due to space or age grouping, but we will make every effort we can so that your camper has the best week possible.
My child is in middle school - is there a camp or job for them?
As of February 2025, we do not currently offer any camp or job offerings for rising 6th graders and up.  We do hire teenagers who are authorized to work (at least age 14).  Keep an eye out for potential middle school camps or job opening postings which open in March 2025.
How can I contact someone from the camp?
Before camp begins, if you have a question regarding camp enrollment or billing, you can email us at summercamps@parkwayroanoke.com or call our camp phone line at 540-600-4734.

If you call the church phone number, they do not have a way to transfer a call to a camp staff member.

Once the camp season begins, check your weekly emails from us about the best phone number to reach our operations staff.
Any other questions?
Please email summercamps@parkwayroanoke.com and we will be happy to answer your questions regarding camp!  If you need to reach someone, the church office line is not able to transfer to us.  Please call our direct camp phone number at 540-600-4734 during business hours.
